Our patients say it best…
Almost every day, we receive warm, wonderful letters of thanks from former patients, their families and friends. We thank them for taking the time to praise the excellent care they received, for telling us about their recovery and for sharing their “Helen Hayes Hospital Experience” with us, which we in turn share with you here.
“I want to share a little story with you. My eight year old nephew was on a day trip to New York City recently, with some of his friends, and their Moms, of course. they happened to pass the Helen Hayes Theater. He remarked to his friends, ‘Oh I know Helen Hayes! She must be really important cause they named a hospital after her, too!’ I guess she is…at least to me. Thanks to her, and everyone at her hospital, I got my life back. You can’t beat that! Thanks for everything.”
“Not one day went by that we were not supported by a comprehensive, sensitive, multidisciplinary approach…Nothing was too much to ask. My Dad made an interesting observation toward the end of his stay. He told me that it was obvious to him that the staff all got along and liked one another. A rather interesting perspective on success, I think.” – S.M.
“The staff was so supportive and eager to please. I can’t sing your praises enough. Even the food was excellent…Your staff is remarkable – a treasure in today’s health care market.” – M.K.

I was treated with respect and dignity and attention was paid to all aspects of my physical and emotional needs. You gave me the gift of your trust in my ability to regain total independence. You gave me a new lease on life.” – H.M.
“The physician who cared for me was witty and made us feel at home. His presence at the bedside twice a day truly made us feel that we were well taken care of. It was a great comfort…One night, I needed help at 2:00 am and when I apologized to the nurses’ aide, she said, ‘Don’t say that, that is what we are here for.’ ” – S.P.
“You have a difficult job, but a rewarding one. I hope that I have been able in some small way to express what an important task you have in restoring health and mobility to grateful people like me, who come under your care for a brief time and find the rest of their lives improved because of it.” – E.M.
“When we come to a place like Helen Hayes, we are more than likely in a fragile state, physically and mentally, and most of all emotionally. You lie awake at night wondering what your new life is going to be like. …I made acquaintances with the patients around me, reveling in every step they made in therapy, as if it were my own. We were all going through the same thing, with comparable challenges and fears. So a victory for one was a victory for all.” – K.K.

He was accessible, friendly and very knowledgeable and never too busy to spend time with me and my family. He never left my room until every question was answered. And believe me, there were many.” – E.P.
“I was treated with dignity, courtesy and respect. The staff was patient, knowledgeable, caring, competent, pleasant and kind. It seemed obvious that they are well trained…I particularly loved the ‘car’ and ‘apartment’ set-up that you had so that I could be shown how to maneuver around those areas before going home.” – M.B.
