Inpatient Rehabilitation

For patients who need intensive rehabilitation, Helen Hayes Hospital offers a full spectrum of services, with special expertise in caring for the acutely ill or rehabilitation patient with complex problems. An interdisciplinary team, led by a physician, works with the patient, family, and/or caregiver to develop and implement an individualized treatment plan, and then carefully monitors the patient's progress. Team specialists include physical, occupational and respiratory therapists, speech pathologists, rehabilitation nurses, Recreational Therapy specialists, nutritionists, social workers and prosthetists and orthotists.

(Power Point)
Based on the results from a recent national survey, 89% of patients who underwent rehabilitation at Helen Hayes Hospital were discharged to home (FIM). Only 3% were discharged to long term care compared to 8% nationally (FIM). Follow-up survey results report that 95% of Helen Hayes Hospital patients were still able to care for themselves at home ninety days (90) post-discharge (FONE-FIM).
