Transitional Rehabilitation
Center
The TRC is designed for individuals with acquired brain injury
who are at least 18 years of age. Prospective participants
have typically completed an intensive inpatient rehabilitation
program and are not yet functioning at a high enough level
to return home and live independently. The goal of the program
is to help individuals with brain injury to re-enter the community
in the most effective and cost efficient manner possible.
Through comprehensive service coordination and structured
programming, participants will be able to successfully rebuild
their support systems and learn new compensatory strategies
while solidifying existing skills. Ultimately, the staff works
with the participant to secure a discharge to a permanent
residence of his or her choice.
Located on the HHH campus, the Center
accommodates ten individuals in a comfortably appointed and
accessible residence. Professional staff provide 24 hour coverage
encompassing independent living skills training, community
integration counseling, intensive behavioral programming neuropsychology,
and other services. Physical, occupational and speech therapy,
as well as additional services, are provided through Helen
Hayes Hospital.
