Hospital Seeks Volunteers For Osteoporosis Research Study

  • The Helen Hayes Hospital Clinical Research Center in West Haverstraw is currently recruiting women to participate in a study examining new treatments for osteoporosis.

    To be eligible for the study, a woman must be between age of 45 or older, postmenopausal, diagnosed with osteoporosis and currently taking the medication Actonel, Fosamex or no treatment.

    Individuals who qualify and participate in the study will receive all study-related care at no charge, including bone density testing, physical examinations, laboratory services, calcium and vitamin D supplements and free study medication. Financial compensation for time and travel will also be available.

    Osteoporosis is a serious health concern worldwide. It is a preventable disease which causes weakening of the bones and a loss of bone mass, resulting in fractures and disability. The disease is expected to affect one in every two women. Helen Hayes Hospital is one of the country’s leading centers in osteoporosis research.
